Brand & PR
What the change means for digital PR, reputation and social listening — earned sources as AI-visibility infrastructure.
This page reorders the material of the other two sections for Digital PR / Reputation and Social Listening / Brand Intelligence.
What changes for brand & PR
- Earned sources become visibility infrastructure. Only about 1% of the sources LLMs cite come from the brand’s own sites; the rest is earned — forums, reviews, comparisons, third-party articles. Digital PR moves from support activity to the primary lever of AI visibility. See Intent-based interaction and The customer journey shortens.
- Listen upstream. Social Listening guards the input — the sources and conversations that feed the model’s answer — while AI Visibility measures the output. Three concrete shifts: the sources that feed generative answers matter more than traditional social channels; social signal quality dilutes under synthetic content; and the most influential brand conversation is in private, unobservable chats. See Trust, AI literacy and calibration.
- No right of reply inside an answer. A brand hallucination is reputational damage with no correction channel; the only lever is fixing the upstream sources. See Representation forms where you don’t publish.
What you cannot decide alone
- AI visibility measurement is a distinct discipline — see AI Visibility.
- Reputation under interpretation is conditioned by Legal & Governance on disclosure and by the brand mandate in Content & Editorial.
